Green smoothies are all the rage right now, and for good reason! My green smoothie contains an ideal balance of veggies, fiber, protein and healthy fats, all which work to keep you satisfied for hours. It’s my go-to breakfast some days, but also makes a great meal replacement if you need a quick lunch or even dinner on occasion.
To make my life easier, I like to have some of my ingredients prepped ahead of time to make the morning smoothie making process quick and efficient.
At the beginning of each week I take a bundle of bananas, peel them, chop them in half and place them in a Tupperware container in the freezer. This way the bananas won’t brown or go bad.
I also purchase the pre-washed package of organic baby spinach so it’s easy to just grab a couple of handfuls and throw it in the blender.
Frozen berries are a must for me as well because they keep well in the freezer, they’re pre-washed, and unlike fresh berries, they won’t mold or rot.
Without the addition of protein powder, this smoothie contains about 5 grams of protein. Protein is essential to keep you full and give you energy to get through your day. I suggest starting your day with some protein to get your metabolism going and get you ready to take on the day.
Protein powders can make a great addition to any smoothie. But it’s important use a high quality protein source.
My current favorite is Vital Proteins® Collagen Peptides which is a high quality, easily digestible, flavorless protein source. Plus, you can use Collagen Peptides in other ways like adding it to your morning coffee, to your oatmeal, or even in baked goods.
Check out the recipe and directions below. And as always, feel free to change things up and use your favorite fruits and veggies.
