If you haven’t tried a turmeric latte yet, now’s the time. The weather is getting cooler — much cooler, and if you need something warm to cozy up with, the turmeric latte is perfect. With spices like turmeric, cinnamon and ginger, and a touch of honey, you’ll wonder why you haven’t tried it sooner.
Why Turmeric?
Turmeric is a spice used in Indian cooking that has a vibrant yellow color. Turmeric contains a compound called Curcumin which is what gives turmeric its potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. As far as flavor goes, turmeric has a toasty and light curry flavor. It’s delicious! You can add turmeric to savory dished like soups, marinades and curries. But it also makes a slightly sweet, delicious and warming drink called a Turmeric Latte.
Some of turmeric’s healthy highlights!
Anti-Inflammatory.
Curcumin [the active compound in turmeric] is a potent anti-inflammatory compound. Inflammation can run rampant throughout our bodies, so any way in which we can fight inflammation will have a positive impact on your health! Every day things like stress, poor eating habits and lack of exercise can cause inflammation to increase in our bodies which is why it is so important to find ways to decrease inflammation naturally [and deliciously in this case!].
Potent Antioxidant.
Antioxidants help fight oxidation and inflammation throughout the body which is another very important aspect of your overall health. Antioxidants, as the name implies, protect your body from oxidative damage. Oxidative damage may increase from poor self care, unhealthy food choices [i.e. processed foods and fast foods] and smoking or drinking too much alcohol. Turmeric has a high antioxidant capacity, meaning that it helps protect your body from this damage.
Versatile.
Turmeric is a very versatile spice because it can be used in both savory and sweet preparations. Love this – it’s like Golden Milk taken up a notch in flavor. However, to get the full benefits and absorption of tumeric you need to add a tiny amount (like a few grains) of black pepper. That small amount shouldn’t change the flavor but will multiply the benefits.
Thanks so much for your comment/advice. I will add that to my recipe for sure 🙂
